Maiura-art

An idea is conceived, the methods and materials of rendering it into an aesthetic object are evaluated and adjusted in a continuous cycle. The object finally takes birth and may or may not match the original vision. I have no formal art education and have always felt I wanted to create my objects in a vacuum, not letting any outside influences affect my work. While knowing that it is impossible to be completely insulated and impervious to our visual surroundings, established processes and to life experiences, I do make an attempt to begin with an idea consciously outside the influence of visuals I have imbibed either purposely or inadvertently.

My clay objects are a product of my “playing in the mud” with absolute sensory enjoyment. This infinitely versatile and endlessly inspiring material allows me to have a lot of fun while trying to create objects that conform to my aesthetics. However making clay objects, to me, is a guilty pleasure because the process of making them is so energy consumptive, not only in the direct use of energy but also the environmental costs of producing and transporting the various materials used. I want to keep making these objects but my effort is to try to use as few materials and as little energy as I can.
